The 46th Annual OC Home & Garden Show and Giving Pavilion February 25-26 at the OC Fair & Event Center

01.22.23

The 46th Annual OC Home & Garden Show will be celebrated February 25-26 at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa. It will be the most interesting, fun, and informative home show in years complete with OC’s finest home improvement vendors, a beautiful garden display, hourly DIY, hourly prizes, and more.

And for the first time, Ultimate Events founder, Sylvia Andersen, will debut The Giving Pavilion, an entire building dedicated to promoting, teaching, and offering opportunities for guests to learn more about local nonprofits and charities. Free booths for nonprofits are available now. Email sylvia.ultimateevents@gmail.com, call or text 801.599.6664 to reserve yours today.

Andersen was inspired to create the Giving Pavilion after discovering that many seniors are vulnerable to homelessness. She founded her own non-profit, A Village for Bob dedicated to helping. “We, at Ultimate Events, believe in giving back to the communities we serve. We have a strong commitment to an under-served category of homelessness,” Andersen said. “We have found too many hard-working seniors who are self-employed or independent contractors suddenly aged out or due to illness find themselves without a job and homeless. We intend to help!”

A Village for Bob partnered with Houdini Housing which creates tiny homes that are premanufactured and “pop-up”, taking only a couple of days to erect and offering 400 square feet of living space, including a living, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom space.

Andersen discovered the brilliance and possibilities of tiny homes housing when she learned of a heartbreaking situation with one of the long-time exhibitors at her shows.

“Bob” an elderly gardener had been self-employed for most of his life and had presented at Ultimate Events garden shows for decades. During COVID, he became homeless at 84 and was living in his car. Prior to that, he had lived with his girlfriend for more than 20 years, but when she passed away, the home was left to her son, and it was sold.

Andersen realized vulnerable seniors can go unnoticed. “Many didn’t prepare for a time when they couldn’t work. One health issue and many seniors could be homeless,” she said. “I don’t believe we have looked at people who have worked hard their whole lives and suddenly find themselves homeless. I decided I was in a position where I could do something, so I started a charity called “A Village for Bob”. They will be tiny home communities and I will be building one in Utah and California.”

Villages for Bob will be communities of tiny homes for healthy seniors to live in when they find themselves homeless. They will be true communities, with a community garden and store, where seniors can live out their lives until health issues require them to move to an assisted living environment.

Nonprofits interested in being a part of The Giving Pavilion can reserve a FREE Booth thanks to sponsors; call or text today to reserve yours at 801.599.6664.

Information on A Village for Bob charity and Houdini Housing’s tiny homes will also be available at the OC Home & Garden Show.

The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay’s Global Cuisine Series

01.22.23

The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, the leading Forbes Five-Star oceanfront resort in the San Francisco Bay Area, is bringing back the renowned Global Cuisine Series, which is overseen by the resort’s culinary leaders, Executive Chef Roberto Riveros-Leyton and Navio Chef de Cuisine Francisco Simon, and features visiting Michelin-starred chefs from around the world.

The 2023 Global Cuisine Series is spearheaded by Navio’s Chef de Cuisine Francisco Simón who collaborates with visiting chefs to prepare signature dinner and brunch menus for one weekend at the resort’s fine dining restaurant, Navio

The first guest chef in the 2023 Global Cuisine Series is Chef Miguel Navarro of Es Fum at the St. Regis Mardavall Resort in Mallorca. Thursday through Sunday, February 2–5, 2023, Chef Navarro will beguile gourmands with his Mediterranean-style cuisine, which will be inspired by the bounty of Half Moon Bay’s rich aquaculture and nearby farm communities.

Now leading the culinary team at the Michelin-starred Es Fum, Chef Miguel Navarro, born on La Gomera in the Canary Islands, has a wealth of experience in restaurants with two or three Michelin stars. His culinary stages and positions have included the renowned Martín Berasetegui, Celler de Can Roca, Piazza Duomo (Alba, Italy), and Aurmendi in the Basque Country. More recently he's worked at the 2-star MB Restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Abama (Tenerife), the 3-star Aqua (Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg), and Lasarte in Barcelona (three Michelin stars).

With a rich history of collaboration together in Barcelona at the 3-star restaurant Lasarte by Martin Berasategui, both chefs Roberto and Miguel share a strong, disciplined working method, which then allows them the freedom to explore their passions and incorporate influences from all of their global training.

According to Chef Roberto, “For this first installment of the 2023 Global Cuisine Series, we look forward to collaborating as Chef Francisco, Chef Miguel and myself complement each other nicely, have the same culinary training, and a strong history working together in Barcelona. We are particularly interested in fusing our California flavors with Spanish and Mediterranean influences and modern technique with the healthy bounty that serves our Half Moon Bay, California location.” Chef Roberto adds, “The three of us all share a deep passion for crafting spectacular food, which is served in a luxurious setting, like Navio, in order that the food, wine, and ambiance all present the perfect meal with special surprises.”

For curious gourmands and anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion with these three world-class chefs, Navio will be offering reservations February 2-5, 2023. The collaborative menu will be served for dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Navio, the resort’s fine dining restaurant, resides in a luxurious setting that offers sweeping Pacific Ocean and sunset views, which complement the highly elevated, locally inspired menus. The seven-course Chef’s Tasting Menu, offered at dinner, will feature three dishes from the visiting chef and is available for $249 per guest. Navio’s two-hour Weekend Brunch experience will feature three dishes from the guest chef with seatings from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $249 per guest.
